We all have some type of love story with McDonald's. For some it's their fries, others the classic Big Mac. My love story is a little bit different...
From January to July of 2018, I worked as a Communication and Marketing Intern for a McDonald's owner/operator in Ohio. The Scott Family McDonald’s (SFM) is highly respected within the McDonald’s system for running great restaurants and supporting their communities. When I was with the organization they owned 16 restaurants and employed over 1,000 people, I am sure this number has grown since.
During my time as SFM's Communication and Marketing Intern, my key role was to create a greater understanding for McDonald's Experience of the Future vision. Under this initiative McDonald's locations added modern renovations, ordering kiosks, table service, mobile order, and delivery. Under this project, I planned community based events and worked to create a better understanding for Experience of the Future changes. I also designed graphics, assisted with hiring efforts, promoted Uber Eats and Archways to Opportunity, wrote stories, and helped with other tasks as needed.
My experience at SFM did more than build my marketing and communication skills, it gave me invaluable insight into what it takes to run just a portion of such a large corporation. Through my time at SFM, I gained respect for all the players in this corporation, no matter how big or small their role.
I also began my love affair with their oatmeal, if you haven't tried it yet... you're welcome.
